Welcome to
class 1

Welcome to the Class 1 page

Class 1 is taught by Miss Davies
Teaching Assistants: Miss Stead & Miss Pilling

Welcome to Class 1! Miss Davies is the class teacher, supported by Miss Stead and Miss Pilling. Class 1 is a mix of Reception and Year 1 pupils. It has been wonderful to welcome our new Reception children and help them settle into school life this half term. They have settled in brilliantly and are now confident at eating lunch in the dinner hall, playing out on the yard and doing lots of learning in class! It has been great to welcome back our fabulous Year 1 pupils after the Summer holidays. They have been working hard on their Phonics, Maths and English. Year 1 have been brilliant role models and have been showing Reception the ropes, St John’s Stonefold style! We have had so much fun in the Mud Kitchen, building farms and caves in our Construction Corner and using Autumn objects to make super art work in the Craft Area! We are so proud of you Class 1!

Science

The project this week aims to provide opportunities for your child to learn more about the environment. Learning may focus on changes to different environments, the impact of humans on environments, climate change etc .

Create a daily weather chart- ○ Record using pictures and written labels (where appropriate). How has the weather changed over the week? ○ If it is raining, leave a container outside to collect the rain e.g. a water bottle with the funnel cut off. Draw a line or make a mark to show where the rain came up to. Repeat overnight or the next day and compare your results.

Classes 1 and 2: Easy letters and easy words

Of course, use this resource to best suit your child. There are many options such as letter and number formation, patterns, high frequency (common exception) words and more. The most important thing is that our pupils keep up a good standard of handwriting.

You can also practice fine and gross motor skills: passing and throwing, walking along a straight line, using a peg or clip to pick up buttons or pasta, making or building with playdough etc.

My house: Discuss with your child what their house looks like inside and outside? How many bedrooms does it have? Who has the biggest bedroom? Who has the smallest? Ask them to look outside their window and see if they can spot a house different to their own. Can they draw their house? How many windows at the front? How many windows at the back? Do you have one door or two? In a special bag - could you (with adult support) place things that make it your home? Why would you pick those items?
